WHAT IS ART?

Yesterday I was having one of those deep and meaningful conversations with my flatmates and somehow we ended up talking about art and its importance nowadays.

I think people forgot what is, indeed, art. Nowadays everything can be art, the word has lost some of his power because we over use it. Someone dancing in the street? Art. A dot in a white canvas? Or even a line? Art. Someone drumming in a table? Art. The thing is, that is NOT art. They are at maximum nice creations and I don't say this with decrease, they just are. An artist is supposed to use the techniques he learnt with past artists and use them. It takes time but it is okay. It can take you 2 days or 2 years. I just feel that an artist puts his heart on what he is doing, it takes almost everything.

These days everyone calls themselves an artist, "I took this photo with my new iPhone and edited it on VSCO so I guess I am a photographer now" or "AH I am a pianist because I downloaded this app to my phone and I made 8/10 on this song" can you see how ridiculous this is?

I searched on google what was art and this came up: "The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power." Art is supposed to make you feel things. It is supposed to make you think, you are taken to another world. It colours your life, you feel a rainbow inside your heart because how can someone make something as beautiful as what you are seeing at that moment? Or something so different?

We don't do different anymore. It's sad. Everything, or at least most of the things, are cheap recreations of once fantastic ARTISTS.

The Society we live in doesn't help either. People are in such hurry, so stressed that they don't have time to appreciate beautiful things such music and paintings. And I am talking about real music, with melody, good lyrics and great performance. We should all take at least 1 hour of our days to listen an album, to see a new serie or film or just to seat and write.

I think the technology messed up our minds. I hate the fact that art has become a secondary thing.

I get so angry when I am seeing the Fashion Weeks by a small screen because it is not possible for me to be there and I see people siting in the front row and instead of looking at that beautiful patters, giving attention to the colours and the models, instead of appreciating their surroundings they see it too from a screen. Why? Because they are just there taking photos with their phones to later put them on Instagram. Probably they didn't saw some of the looks because they were trying to take the perfect photography, what a Fashion Queens.

We have so many creative people around us, let's cherish them instead of giving attention to the easy things.

"The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls."
